Project for the re-enrollment of unschooled children from disadvantaged families.
Project PRENSIP
The education sector of the Central African Republic is harshly affected by the ongoing armed conflicts that have marred the country for the last several decades. Only 57% of children have access to education in 2020, compared to 71.8% in 2012(Source: National Ministry of Education). The illiteracy rate among girls of elementary school age is almost double that of boys (58 % versus 30%).
In 2020, 27% of first grade students dropped out of school after only 9 months (or less) of school exposure (Source: MICS-6 survey, 2021). In addition to attacks on schools and the forced displacement of thousands of children due to armed conflicts, the COVID-19 pandemic led to the closure of all 3679 schools in the country for the major part of 2020, causing the interruption of learning for an estimated 1.4 million young students, many of whom will never set foot back into school again.
Intrinsically motivated by its motto “Ndoyé a hon yé Kouè” which means charity avails much, PADOU Foundationinitiated a project titled “Project for the re- enrollment of unschooled children from disadvantaged families” or PRENSIP (pronounced ‘princip’ ) in French.
Through this project, Padou Foundation will:
- Involve the parents of selected children by providing a platform and a structure for the parents to interact with each other and with the school system.
- Form a partnership with 3 local elementary schools for the enrollment of the selected children and for a structured collaboration between teachers and parents.
- Engage the community by organizing regular forums around the project.
- Provide complete set of school supplies to 200 children aged 6-12 years from the poorest families in the targeted communities. These include 100 girls and 100 boys.
- Cover full tuitions the school year 2022-2023 for the selected pupils, based on their educational levels.
- Provide a set of required school uniforms to the selected pupils.
